Tehama County conducts wildfire

Jun 03, 2023

The Tehama County Evacuation Study looked into long-term emergency preparedness.

RED BLUFF, Calif. - There's a new push to ensure the community is wildfire-ready.

It's always good to be prepared because you never know when an emergency will strike, which is part of why Tehama County discussed a new evacuation communication tool, Genasys Protect.

Genasys Protect is similar to the county's current app, Tehama Alert. But with Genasys you can view evacuation maps in real time by logging on to ZoneHaven.

CAL FIRE and the Tehama County Sheriff’s Department worked with the Transportation Commission to push for this new software.

"This is in response to the Carr Fire and Camp Fire incidents. We were obviously affected by both in proximity,” said Deputy Director of Transportation Jessica Riske-Gomez.

A new software application is just part of the plan the county wants to move forward with.

The Tehama County Evacuation Study looked into long-term emergency preparedness. The study included looking into sirens. where they would go, how it would work, and where the money would come from. other possible ideas would be fire lanes and secondary roads in single-access communities.

The Genasys Protect can be downloaded on any smart device, and Action News Now is told the county does not plan to get rid of Tehama Alert as of right now.

At the Sept. 12 Board of Supervisors meeting, the commission will present where they are with the study.
